you can reinstall Windows XP by putting it in your CD drive and following the
on-screen directions. However, it will install over Vista, and get rid of
most of your files (programs, documents, settings). If you want to try and
keep those files, boot up to DOS via an old CD (Win2k or greater) and use
FDISK to repartition the drive. Or, if you can, download a trial of
Partition Magic Pro and repartition the hard drive. This would normally be
quite easy, but you say you have trouble with response time and memory.
Next, use the XP CD to install as said before, but install it to the new
partition.
Then copy all your old files to the new partition and format the old one.
Then use Partition Magic Pro to merge the two partitions into one, and You
are all set! (Hopefully)
