Just yesterday, I was trying to clean up my computer after getting rid of
Norton. I accidentally deleted a bunch of registry keys using Registry Maid.
It did not delete any of my data but when my computer started, the only
thing that showed up was my desktop background...no icons, no start button,
etc. I was only able to access the Task Manager. System Restore was also
not working. So I reinstalled Windows XP from a friend's disk (because I am
not living in the U.S. at the moment but my old disks are) which brought back
all of the deleted registry keys and kept all of my data. But now, it is not
recognizing the version of windows as valid and says I need to activate it.
Is there any way to show Microsoft that I just used the other disk to "fill
in the holes" of my OS? I guess I could enter my friend's serial number, but
would that screw up her windows? Thanks.
