Reinstalled xp on formatted hd but problems!

Did it right, I thought! Full format and clean reinstall, got all the updates and then created new restore point just in case. System now seems to have a big problem remembering user profiles, one when I log on to an existing one, it is acting as if it is a new user profile, asking me to take a tour of windows xp (as if) wish I knew why! I am looking at a new format and install, any suggestions

Paul, if you did a format and clean install then as far as XP is
concerned you are a new User.
