Hi,
To format the hard drive with Windows XP installation, you
need to use Fdisk utility. This utility is available with
Windows 98 Startup floppy. To format the hard drive using
Windows 98 Startup floppy disk, follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows 98 Startup floppy disk.
2. Hold down the power button for 5 seconds until the
computer shuts off
3. From a powered off state turn on the computer by
pressing the power button
4. Use the arrow keys to scroll to "Start computer with CD-
ROM Support" and press Enter
5. At the A:\> prompt type FDISK and press Enter
6. At the "Do you wish to enable large disk support (Y/N)"
prompt, press Y and then Enter
7. At the "Should NTFS partitions be treated as large?"
prompt, press Y and Enter
8. At the "FDISK Options" menu, press 3 and Enter to
select "Delete partition or logical DOS drive"
9. Press 3 and Enter to select "Delete Logical DOS Drives
(s) in Extended DOS Partition"
10. At the "What logical partition do you want to delete?"
prompt, press C and Enter
11. At the "Enter volume label" prompt, type SYSTEM_SAV
and press Enter
12. At the "Are you sure?" prompt, press Y and Enter
13. Press ESC twice
14. Press 3 and Enter to select "Delete partition or
logical DOS drive"
15. Press 2 and Enter for "Delete Extended DOS Partition"
16. At the "Data in extended DOS partition will be
deleted, are you sure you want to continue?" prompt, press
Y and Enter
17. Press ESC
18. Press 3 and Enter to select "Delete partition or
logical DOS drive"
19. Press 4 and Enter to select "Delete NON-DOS Partition"
20. At the "What logical partition do you want to delete?"
prompt type 1 and press Enter
21. At the "Do you want to continue?" prompt, press Y and
Enter
22. Press ESC 3 times to return to the A:\> prompt
