I need to reinstall IE, for whatever reason I cannot find
the IE icon, I have looked everywhere and it is gone. I
have installed the service pack and nothing, I am using XP
pro but tried to reinstall IE from a home disk that I have
for my laptop and nothing. What do I do?

look here "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

unfortunately I have looked there and everywhere else, it is missing. I
need to reinstall. I have tried the lionk given by MSFT but no dice,
they only have the service pack and that doesnt give me an icon either.

download and run these
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ adaware

http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download spybot

http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download cwshredder
also do a full virus scan

1. Create a folder called ie6sp1 in the root of your C:\ drive

2. Download the ie6setup.exe file and copy it to c:\ie6sp1\

3. Then use the run command from start menu and type:

"c:\ie6sp1\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

(It's important that the quotes are included in the run command)

4. Click on 'I accept the agreement' and click on Next:

5. Select the Operating Systems you wish to download IE6SP1 for, and specify
a download location for the files to be stored in, then click on Next:

That's it! Wait for the files to be downloaded and then you can store them
away on some form of back-up media.
