My XP is getting slow and slow. It even has errors while I reboot the
system.
I would like to re install my XP.
Can I reinstall XP on top of SP 2?
Do I need to request the number from Microsoft?
If I do, where I can request?

Any information is great appreciated.

Sounds like you need a "repair installation" of XP. Theoretically, this
would not affect any data. My guess is that you would need to download SP2
again.

You can do a Clean Install without contacting MS but you will have to
reactivate when finished if it has been less then 120 days since your last
activation then you will more then likely have to call for activation but
that is only a 5 min. phone call, you will see an on-screen prompt if a call
is necessary along with the phone number.

Perhaps a repair install would be all that is needed. A repair install under
most circumstances will leave all files unharmed and repair all OS files. It
is always a good idea to backup all important information before making a
major change.

Always unhook all hardware except Monitor, Keyboard, & Mouse before
performing a Clean or Repair Install.

Roll back SP2 and do a repair install before trying the reinstall. However,
drastic measures may not be needed. First I would make sure that your disk
is defragmented and you have removed any spyware. Then see if you still
need to reinstall or repair. But remember, uninstall SP2 before doing a
repair install.

The major cause of bad SP2 is spyware. Roll back SP2 and download the new MS
Windows AntiSpyware. It's a free bets, but is terrific:

Follow the scan and removal, reinstall SP2.

Be careful ... it reports many false positives.

The term "False Positive" comes from the defining "positive" as meaning "I
found something". So a false positive is an error.

There is also the term "False Negative". In other words a "negative" finding
means that you are safe when in fact that finding is incorrect.
