reinstall XP pro

I had to reinstall XP pro (fixing XP didn't work) and now none of my software will run. I recall that XP can search for software and install it properly. How do I do this
Also my desktop is wiped out. Is that info recoverable

The Software you will have to reinstall. If you ran a repair of the OS your
programs would of been fine. The way your did it messes with the programs
and need to be reinstalled.

If you go to c:\documents and settings\ and in there are folders of all the
users and you can double click on which ever one you want and then select
the desktop folder and there are your folders or icons you can copy over to
your desktop.
