Lost XP when accidentally erased drive during install of Ubuntu. There are
no disks with this laptop which my girl friends son got from his dad. It
came with XP as there is a Windows XP Home Edition Product Key/Label on the
back. Can I get XP going again without spending $$$. Laptop is an; emachine
M5414, SN N7553 400 03031

Could I borrow a friends XP disk and install using my Product Key?

As long as it's the same type OEM disk that originally came with the
e-machine.

You'd be better off contacting eMachines and getting a replacement install
CD.

some manufacturers
will create a special
partition on the disk
that has the necessary
files to restore the computer
to its factory state.

double check your
user manual or the
home site for your
machine for instructions
on restoring your product.
