Reinstall Windows XP

Hello,
I've got a Notebook with pre-installed Windows XP Pro.
My HDD crashed and I had to replace it by a new one. Now my problem is that
I do not have an installation CD! How can I reinstall the OS? Is it possible
to install the XP using another CD and entering my own product key written on
the Microsoft label? I also have the original Windows driver recovery CD of
the Notebook.
I also have been able to recover some of the system files from the damaged
HDD but not all of them.

The easiest, best, and smartest thing to do is contact the laptop mftr.
and get the Recovery Disks. Usually they do not cost very much.

The second-best thing to do is to find a branded OEM install disk (one
that matches your make of laptop, eg. HP) and use it. You may not even
need to put in the Product Key (on the sticker on the bottom of the
laptop) if you do that. Then install drivers from the disk you have.

The third-best thing to do is to find a generic OEM disk (must match the
version of XP installed, eg. Home, Media Center, Pro). You will use the
Product Key as above but may need to call to activate Windows afterwards.

Most computer shops have branded and generic OEM disks they use and can
do the work for you. Legally they can't sell you a branded OEM but can
sell you a generic one if you prefer to buy it. It will not be
significantly less money than retail and far more than getting a
replacement from the laptop vendor.
