Reinstall problem

I am currently having to reinstall Vista Premium on a new drive and board.
However when I put in the CD Key I get a message " To use this product key
start the installation from your existing version of windows." Cant do that
original hard drive is fried. Any ideas??
 
You have an Upgrade version of Vista, and it will only install as an upgrade
to an existing Windows version. You'll need to start the installation from
within a working copy of XP SP2.
