Please HELP. My computer crashed and I could not get Windows XP to start due to corrupted files. I reinstalled XP Pro, but when it got to the directory to install in, suggested "Windows", it said that programs and documents could be lost if installed into that directory. So, I installed into "Windows2". XP works great but I can't get it to recognize my programs, like MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc,. I can look on the C: drive and see the programs and my old documnets, but if I try to load a program, it says the program is not installed
Can I get my programs and documents back, or am I out of luck
Thanks

I'm having the same problem as we speak. I know all my programs and folders are still there because the space is taken up on my hard drive, right??? But it seems like I have to start all over with everything, including my outlook express whick is no longer attached to anything. I think everything I need (want) is still there; I just don't know how to find it

Hi

You will have to reinstall your programs, because a new registry wa
created. However, you can recuperate your documents. You might have t
take ownership of them, though

hi jk,

You will have to reinstall the programs, look for your data, if
necessary, go to Windows Explorer > Folder Options > Show system and
hidden data.

For your Outloox Express data, open a command prompt (Start > Run >
cmd) type cd\
and then dir *.dbx /s

it will show you the path to the *.dbx files, where OE stores
messages, move them to the new folders created during reinstall
The path will look like this: (C:Documents and
Settings\Username\Local configuratrion\Program
dara\Identities\{21B16D38-F7E7-4CED-B367-8DD57C92AB04}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express)

Good luck
