recently i have been experiencing some wacky bugs, and
nobody seems to know anything about them. the most
prominent bug is a problem with window sizing. for some
reason windows dont open to the correct size, or will not
open at all (although the application has launched, its
window remains unseen). after troubleshooting this for
about two months i have decided it would just be easier to
reinstall windows.

Heres the problem: i have about 50GB of data on the same
physical drive as windows is installed on.

Heres the Question: is it possible to reformat only the C:
logical drive without messing with the data on the D:
logical drive??? or must i move all data to another
physical drive before reformatting and re-installing
windows?

windows XP home sp1
P4 2GHz
1024MB PC 2100 DDR

could you explain this process further?
what does the floppy need to have on it?

i have the XP recovery disks that came with the machine,
can i just use these to initiate the reformat?

any further info would be much appreciated.

When you format, you format partitions not disk drives. Just change your
bios to boot from the XP cd and you can format the C partition and reinstall
without effecting D.

There is no need for a floppy since the Windows XP CD is bootable.
Follow this to perform a Clean Installation on C drive:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/cleanxp.htm
Do NOT follow the steps about deleting the partitions or all data on
all drives will be lost.
Read it over carefully so you know exactly what will happen and when.
Data should be safe, back-up important data just in case.
