Craigmill

I would like to reinstall IE6.

I have followed the appnded instructions to uninstall my current IE6,

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active
Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed
below.
Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: IsInstalled
Setting for Value Data: [Change the Value from 1 to 0]
Exit Registry

and then tried the reinstall via the Microsoft download page but I get
the "Setup has detected a newer version already installed on this
system. Set up cannot continue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Was IE7 ever installed?
If so, how did you uninstall it?

Gordon, the instructions I followed were from the page you refered to -
regedit to uninstall then download and install ie6 - it still says I
have a newer version and won't continue, hence my question.

Frank, no I have never installed ie7, just ie6 which has been
corrupted.

Thanks!

Well MY version of that site says this:
To repair or reinstall Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP,
complete the following procedure while you are logged on as an
administrator: 1. Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the
protected files on your computer: a. Click Start, and then click Run.
b. In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, and then click OK.

Note that you may be prompted for the Windows XP or Windows XP Service
Pack 1 installation media.

That was method 1, it did indeed require my XP disc. I had already
tried that and it did not work either, hence method 2.
