Hi

I hope someone can help me. I keep getting a message telling me I have to
reinstall the following module to my system32 directory MOUSE.DRV

I have no idea what that means and as windows was already installed when I
bought this PC, I don't even know how.

This happens when I am trying to use a particular CD (learn spanish) but
also happened when I tried to download some IPA (linguistic) fonts ffrom the
web.

I have searched the web (and the microsoft site) unsuccessfully for help.

Kind regards

Hi Christine,

Hopefully, you have the I386 folder available to you. Start/run msconfig,
click on "expand file" (general tab)

File to expand: mouse.drv
From: X:\I386
To: C:\Windows\system32

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386 or simply C:\I386.
If so, change the "from" line accordingly. This assumes a default
installation to C:\Windows. If your installation is in a different folder,
such as C:\Winnt, change the "To" path accordingly. Reboot when finished.

Hi Rick, I tried this but no luck. My I386 file is c:\windows\driver
cache\I386, but in it, I can see no mouse.drv plus, was not sure what to do
once I had filled in the expand file option. Do I need to do a system
restore as well???

Hi,

That wouldn't be the right I386 folder. Make sure folder options are set to
show hidden and system folders.

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options, and on the View tab, check these:

Enable (check) "Display the contents of system folders"
Enable (check) "Show hidden files and folders"
Disable (uncheck): "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"

I also recommend that you disable (uncheck) "hide extensions for known file
types".
