I need help urgently. I have gone through all the versions of Widows, up to
and including Vista. Now I have decided I don't like it and want to go back
to good old DOS, however, I don't want to lose any of my files that I
haven't backed up. AND, I want someone to give me a patch so that I can run
all my programs in DOS mode, Oh and did I mention that I want it now.

I recommend the Paris/Angelina/Britney/Anderson Cooper "10 Step Dos Does
Vista Guide." And why did they take out ole 3.1 Progman from Vister
anyway--they done kept it in XP?

Getting tired of reading all the "I want to go back to XP" posts are we,
Ray?

I find it quite interesting some people ask how to install Vista. I want to
shout at them "if you don't know how to install an OS you should not use
it". Surely that is the basics to know how to actually install it? You
just know those people are going to come back because something has gone
wrong.
I might not be the most knowledgeable person in here but I can get myself
around most errors I have seen and know how to install and remove an OS.
I can understand those who know how to install but get an unexpected error,
that cannot be helped but I often think people jump in too quickly to these
things without thinking of the consequences. Beta testing a program is one
thing, but a whole OS?? People are stupid if they don't expect problems.

Ray,

Back up our files, this is important.

If I remember correctly, MS-DOS came in 4 or 6 diskettes right?
Stick diskette 1 into the floppy drive the boot it.
Run fdisk(?) at the dos prompt then Setup.exe from the floppy drive.
Then just follow the instructions.

Remember that you cannot go back to Vista once you install DOS.
Reverting to the previous OS is not included with DOS.

What is your hardware configuration?
Make sure you have driver support for any scsi card, netware, etc. in hand
before you start.

Hope this helps and happy computing ;)

The scary part is that if they have to ask then XP most likely came
pre-installed and they could really be in the soup.

You forgot to tell him to format after fdisk. Oh, and don't forget the
three finger salute in between. ;)
