Reinstall Defender- vista

help- i had issues in upgrading to vista and uninstalled defender thinking i
could re download it. i cant as it stops the download process telling me its
part of vista- well it was..... how can i get past this "cancelling" of the
download??
 
Forget downloading Windows Defender. There is no downloadable source for
Windows Defender on Vista--it is part of the OS.

Do you have a restore point from prior to this uninstall? That's the best
recourse.
 
no restore point. any other options

I was afraid that might be the case. This is one that I don't know the
answer for, but I'm sure there must be one--so I'll start looking.

I don't have an upgrade machine with Windows Defender on it to test with,
and I don't have the time to replicate this in a virtual machine.

What happens? Is Windows Defender still there in the menus? Is it still
there in \Program Files? Are the executables still there in the folder?
What happens if you run them?
