Reinstall and dynamic update

I am attempting to reinstall XP with a complete wipe of the disk first.
Early in the process, I mistakenly selected "dynamic update," where some
update files are first downloaded from MS. However, dynamic update
disallows deleting old partitions, and I can find no way to tell the setup
program that I really do not want dynamic update. I even deleted a new
folder of downloaded files on C: that apparently supports dynamic update,
but a switch is apparently set somewhere. How do I tell the setup program
that I want a clean install? Thanks.

Just reboot and start over...

That does not work. Setup remembers that dynamic update has been selected.

How 'bout that?

I guess it's time to get out a winME bootdisk and run fdisk and delete
your non-dos partition(s)
or use a utility as us aefdisk and use fdisk /delall

That's not what's causing your problem.

It sounds as if you're trying to start the reinstall from
within your current XP installation. In order to format C and
install a fresh copy of XP you're going to have to boot the
computer from the XP installation CD.

The first thing you'll need to do is configure your system to
boot from the CD. How that's accomplished will depend on your
computer's BIOS. Take a look at this article for more info.

Once your in the system's setup program look for a section
titled Boot. Here you'll want to have your CD drive be listed
as the first boot device.

Once that's set, exit the setup program and hit any key when
you see "To boot from the CD press any key". This should start
the installation process where you'll be able to delete
partitions and/or format your drive(s).

Good call...
(I should have figured that one out)
it was not the dynamic update...
the HD cannot be formatted when installing from within XP

Thanks. It was Gordon's reference to being given an option with
regard to Dynamic Update that gave it away. I remembered only
seeing that when starting an upgrade or new installation from
within an existing Windows installation.
