I made the mistake of installing IE7 beta which does not play well with sites
that have PHP and other dynamic programing.

I don't have the time to try fixes I just want to DX it. How do I install 6
over 7-beta. I keep getting the message "a newer version exists."

Can anyone help with this crazyness...

just uninstall IE7 in Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs, like any other app.
IE6 will be automatically re-instated.

I have the same problem. However, Microsoft advise that IE7 must be removed
before installing IE6. They instruct you to do this through the Add/Remove
program facility. BUT, there is no entry for IE7 in the program listing. They
also give an uninstall program to run (spuninst..) but the directory
....7beta2 does not exist.
Conclusion: I installed IE7 in the normal way from the IE download pages but
there doesn't seem to be a way of removing it. My advise is do not load ie7
as many applications are not fully compatible with it.

try re-installing IE7 remembering to disable your AV prog while doing
so.....

Thanks for your suggestion. However, the install program simply recognizes
that IE7 is present and asks me to unload it. There is no option to continue
with the load.

Before proceeding, please read! =>

1. First try uninstalling via Add/Remove Programs. (Tip: Make sure Show
Updates box is checked.)

If IE7 isn't found there, try the following which is based on the notes of
MVP Sandi Hardmeier:

2. Run the commandline

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2$\spuninst\spuninst.exe (IE7 Beta2)

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe (IE7 Beta2 Preview)

Replace %windir% (above) with the path to your Windows folder, most often
'C:\Windows'. Make sure Show Hidden File and Folders is enabled via Control
Panel > Folder Options.

or

3. Go to the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Right click on Internet Explorer > New String Value > Name that value
InstalledByUser (the value of the new String should be your User Account
name) > Uninstall IE7 via Add/Remove Programs.

Some software (for example CCleaner) deletes uninstaller directories such as
$NtUninstallie7bet2$ (or $NtUninstallie7bet2p$, for IE& Beta2 Preview).
If the $NtUninstallie7bet2$ folder is empty, or has been deleted completely,
whether by third party software or manually to preserve disk space, you will
not be able to remove the Beta 2 Preview via Add/Remove Programs or the
commandline. If running System Restore does not resolve the situation for
you, then your only choice is to stay with the Preview, or format your PC
and install Windows anew. You will not be able to install any future builds
of IE7 while Beta 2 Preview is installed, nor will you be able to run a
Repair Install of XP
