Two major fixes are:
1. DDE problem (when you double click a shortcut to Registry nothing happens
if RegmagiK was already running)
2. Serial number / Activation process improved: now you can run RegmagiK
from any of your hard drives without additional activation requirements.

www.RegmagiK.com, Registry Editor that works for me

Hello Boris,

Last month you offered v 4.5 as freeware for a limited time. Is this v
4.5.2 announcement in alt.comp.freeware also a freeware offer?

Susan,

This is quite a coincidence. I was having trouble with Regmagik this
morning. It would not run on my C drive, only my D drive. (I have the
registered Thanksgiving gift). It apparently lost my registration, so it
kept quitting. Well, I D/L 4.5.2, and dragged it to my C drive and it now
works anywhere, and it's regged. Coolio! :)

Will the present code for version 4.5 activate it?
Thanks

Susan,
If you represent Pricelessware you can offer your readers a chance to get
free RegmagiK
activation code. I want to know how users learn about RegmagiK, so I no
longer give free activation code, unless the e-mail mentions "source" like
"Pricelessware"

Here is a sample text to include on your site or newsletter (provided by
Cliff, author of Xanga newsletter):
RegmagiK - Registry Editor that works for me
It's small and easily installed. I especially
like links on desktop that jump right to the registry key. If any of you
want to try out this software, Boris (the author) has offered everyone who
reads my newsletter a chance at a free activation. Send an email to Boris
with the serial number. You have to run the software and press F1 to see the
serial number. Mention Xanga in your e-mail and get free activation.

Are upgrades also free if we mention "pricelessware?"

Minor upgrades and bug fixes will be free. Major upgrades are not guaranteed
to be free in the future. You should only mention source (like
pricelessware) if you actually saw information about RegmagiK there. At this
time I am not aware that pricelessware has published any information about
RegmagiK v4.5 or later. If you have seen publication that I do not know of,
send me the link and you will also get free RegmagiK activation code.

I'll stick with the superior FREEWARE product that I already use.

The alt.comp.freeware newsgroup is the "newsletter". The Pricelessware
List is chosen by alt.comp.freeware newsgroup participants. I am
webmaster at pricelesswarehome.org - an alt.comp.freeware web site.

alt.comp.freeware is for the discussion of Freeware. IMO your posts to
ACF should always include something like this (based on your "sample
text" above:

"Download RegmagiK. Run the software and press F1 to see the serial
number. Send me an email with the serial number. Mention
"alt.comp.freeware" in your e-mail and get free activation."

Comments from other newgroup participants please. RegmagiK is shareware.
Are posts about RegmagiK that contain information about obtaining a free
copy (free registration/activation code) acceptable posts?

Sounds like beta-testing of a commercial product to me.
Time limits, registering, activation codes..

If the author is really interested in creating freeware he should remove
all these nuisances and limitations and release it as freeware.

Susan,
Thank you for explaining to me the relationship between Pricelessware and
ACF. You are right, current version of RegmagiK is shareware. It was
freeware for 5 years from 1999 to 2004. I know that RegmagiK v.3.26 was
nominated (but not selected) in 2004 by ACF users and mentioned on
Pricelessware. I think I understand people who want to use only freeware, I
like it too. As a developer I'd rather focus on new features (and also keep
the executable smaller) than implement activation procedure. But how do I
get paid then? I do not like adware, I do not want to ask for donations, and
I do not want to be famous. I want to develop more useful features and since
Microsoft did not hire me to do it I want to get paid by people who believe
my program is worth paying for.

I have sent 180 free activations from Thanksgiving promotion and got mostly
positive feedback. This promotion was not done to get free beta testers. It
was really a promotion - my attempt to raise awareness that such program
does exist. Free activations are still offered to users of ACF &
Pricelessware. RegmagiK activated with free activation code is absolutely
same as if it was paid for. It is not time limited or functionality limited.
The only difference between paid and free activation is the priority of my
replies to users.

I also wanted to thank the person who wrote this:
Description: RegMagik is a fast and sleek registry editor with a number of
nice advantages. It provides an excellent in-pane search results display,
with sortable columns. It has a convenient bookmarks system, with drag and
drop support to your desktop. Its forward and back keys make navigation
quick; and the whole registry editing process is simplified by its display
of only those sub-branches accessed during a current session. Its most
special feature, found nowhere else, is its GUID jump capability. When a
value contains a GUID, RegMagik can auto-jump to its correspondent
definition key. This editor is light, polite, and happy to serve.

Download RegmagiK. Run the software and press F1 to see the serial number.
Send me an email with the serial number. Mention "alt.comp.freeware" in your
e-mail and get free activation.

A very understandable attitude. :) Many participants in ACF *use*
shareware programs but $ware apps are not the focus of this newsgroup or
the Pricelessware web sites.

The ACF program pages list programs that have been mentioned in ACF -
including RegmagiK:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/acf/P_SYSTEMUTILITIES.php#0623

Links are shown to the author's site if the program is free. When a
program becomes $ware a link to the last freeware version (LFW) is
shown. That link is to the author's site *if* the author's site hosts
the LFW. IOW - if you decide to host the LFW of RegmagiK (as a
promotional tool) the link on the ACF program pages will point to your
site.

I appreciate your attention to my posts and all the efforts you and your
team make to keep Pricelessware web site and ACF focused on the freeware.
The result of this work is easy to notice - according to Google ACF is one
of the most active newsgroups.

Thank you for sending me a direct link to the page on Pricelessware that
mentions RegmagiK. I will restore link to Pricelessware on RegmagiK links
page. I used to have this link some time ago when I found out on
Pricelessware that RegmagiK was nominated by ACF users. But later I could
not find this information and I thought that it was removed.

As for LFW I do have an older version of RegmagiK available from my site as
freeware and it has been there all the time during this discussion. It is
not the latest version that was available as freeware though, but close. I
noticed you have a link for LFW regmagik that points to www.midida.com
search page. I was able to find regmagik setup file there. I will consider
making it available from www.RegmagiK.com (probably from History page)
