I suspect a Google search for "Registry", "Registry Entries", and/or
"Windows Registry" will turn up more than you ever wanted to know!

On Windows machines the registry is a place that stores a lot of settings
about your computer. It contains things like informations about your
hardware (processor name, speed etc), settings for some programs (like
Internet Explorer), file associations (that is, it tells the computer which
application to open a certain file type in (eg. open .doc files in Microsoft
Word)), settings that are used in Windows (eg. when someone is looking
around in the Start Menu, how long the delay is until the submenu is
displayed), everytime you install a program entries are made in the Registry
(which store the name of the program, and how to uninstall it) so when you
go to remove a program (using Control Panel) the list of programs being
displayed is coming from the Registry.

Click Start - Run and type regedit and press enter. This will run the
Registry Editor. Don't change anything (it is possible to stuff up your
computer), but you can have a look around safely. You will see there are 6
folders. You can browse these just like you can browse files in Windows
Explorer.

As per the other post, Google should be able to fill in the specifics.
