A housesitter downloaded a virus on my pristine pc!! I
have spent hours trying to rid my pc for a multitude of
irc.bot, trojans, and worms... I was SOOOO close to
eliminating the darn thing and then... In my zeal to be
done with all of this, I deleted vtray from the
registry... I do have a back up of it in my reg cleaner
program; however, I can not get to it. The pc will only
boot to blue screen in all modes (safe, dos, regular)...

Before I format my life away, does anyone have a
solution? Thank you all soooo much for your help!

Have a great day!

Malea

Hi Malea - What file system are you using - FAT32 or NTFS?

Did you back up the registry beforehand? I mean with ntbackup.exe or
ERUNT or any other supported full system registry backup?

I have a back up in the actual regcleaner program.
Problem is I can not get to it because I only boot to a
blue screen.. Can't even get to DOS...

Hi Malea - Please send me a valid email address (not the CDO default) if
possible to jrbyrd @ comcast.net (reomove the spaces), and I'll
continue this with you off-line. Since you're NTFS, the situation is
complicated to try and recover from. There are a couple of approaches, each
with costs/risks, and you need to be fully cognizant of these before you can
make an informed choice as to what to try. DON'T do any reformatting yet,
though. Two questions for your email to me: 1) Have you made a (recent)
Emergency Repair Disk (ERD)? and 2) Have you installed the Recovery
Console?

I suggest in the future you do regular registry backups against the
possible need for them.

I don't know about where/how "regcleaner" stores it's backup and if
they could in any way be of any use in this situation.

Jim Byrd seems willing to assist (other post), so I'll leave you in
his capable hands.
