I changed something in my registry that has stopped my XP from starting. It goes through the startup and ends at the XP screen but will not go onto the desktop. I can get the computer started and to a DOS prompt with a start-up disk.
How do I get to a previous working registry from the dos prompt? I have knowledge base artical 307545 about recoverin fro a corrupted registry
Next question. Like most computers today mine came with XP already installed so I have no XP disk. If I did I would just re-install over XP. If all else fails how do I get a copy of XP that I can install? The "system recovery" disk that came with my computer (Sony Viao) will only reinstall after a format.
This computer has important information I do not want to lose (and all the work getting it) so I will only format as the absolute last resort
Thank you for your help
