Hello all. I hope someone has a cure for this. I have a
customer that has Win 2K Pro installed on it. After the
logon name and password is entered, she gets the
following message:

Windows Cannot Load The Locally Stored Profile. Contact
Your Network Administrator.

Detail - An I/O operation initiated by the registry
failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or
write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the
system's image of the registry.

I was called to the customers site to remove viri from
the computer. Apparently the viri has been on the system
for a while. Not sure if it is related. She had
worm_deloder.a, worm_nachi.a, hacktool, hacktool.flooder,
backdoor.irc.zcrew, irc.trojan, & bat.trojan. All of
these have been removed. A Technet article stated that
the problem may be fixed by installing the latest service
pack. The PC already has SP4 installed.

Any ideas (other than format and start over)?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Bill

Two things;
You can reapply service pack four at any time.
You can delete (or rename) the user profile. When the user next logs on a
new profile will be created from an image in \default user.

I wouldn't think twice about recutting the machine though. They also
obviously need a firewall anti-virus solution

At least a good hardware type firewall solution. With anti-virus you can
probably take your pick.
