Registry problem????

Hi - I'm trying to install DSL to my Dell that has W2K on it. When I try to
renew the IP connection I receive the following error

The following error occurred when renewing adapter and LAN connection: An
operation was attempted on soemthing that is not a socket.

My DSL provider help desk said I would have to change the registry to fix
the problem. Any clue on what I have to correct?

This isn't a hardware problem... You'd do better to ask in the proper
newsgroup.

With that said, most likely a broken stack, firewall problem or spyware.

- Look online for the "Winsock" fix
- Uninstall/reinstall any internet security software you have
- Run a virus/adware/etc. scan

If this is a PCI card try it in another slot?
