I was messing around with the permissions for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT trying to
gain access to a broken key within it. But when I did so, Vista lost all
associations with how to open files and folders, how to install using Windows
Installer, and other things.
I was able to gain a few things back, but now whenever I start explorer it
brings up windows installer. And when I try to install anything, it gives me
"the windows installer service cannot be accessed." I never had these
problems before I messed with those permissions
I've gotten rid of system restore so I can't fall back on that. Is there a
way to restore the permissions on that part of the registry to the way they
were before?
Right now I had to manually add permissions. Currently they are:
Everyone = Read only
System = Full Control, Read
Administrators = Full Control, Read
Users = Read only
