After installing SP2 for XP home edition whenever I do a
cold start(after computer being shutdown) I get the
following message word for word:

"One of the files containing the sytem's registry had to
be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. the
recovery was successful" ..............then I click the
ok button and everything works as it did before but not
near as fast.

My question is: Can this problem be fixed and will it
lead to registry problems down the road. I am fairly new
at this and am very concerned.. My PC was working just
fine before the SP2 update...

Thanx in Advance for any advice

I was having the exact same problem for the exact same reason! It appears
that we both have exceeded the size limits of our registry file. As new
information is being written to our system, new information no longer fits,
so it's being diverted to an alternate log file. Thus now you have to wait
for your boot cycle, then you wait for the diversion to let's say to page 2
of your now over bloated registry, then your system boots fine!

That's how my system was acting!

I hated this!!

I found a truly awesome program on cNet.com / Downloads called "Tune-up
Utilities 2004" and one of the things it does best is clean, optimize and
defrag your registry. It's free for 30 days with no program limitations and
it's around $40 bucks thereafter. It found over 800 problems in my registry,
the program deleted what was unecessary and then it actually defragmented my
registry! Can you believe that crap?

My system boots clean now because my registry is now a single element like
it was suppose to be in the first place.

I'm not too sure what Microsoft may say about this, but it work wonders for
me. I just wish Windows XP had these type of utilities built in so a person
doesn't have to go third party.

Let me know if it work for you!

Respectfully;

U were absolutely correct. I ran the defrag part of the
program, rebooted and did a cold start and i no longer
get the message. Thanks so much for your help.
