It's a bit obscure. I have a macro-writing program, Macro Express, but
one flaw is that it lacks any way of distinguishing between two
windows in the rare case that they have the same title bar caption.
Given the facility I described above, Macro Express could read that
key(s) as an intermediary step to apply focus to the 'correct' window.
BTW, I do have a very old program, called Stiletto, that shows all
Active Windows in a menu list form, accessible for clipboard copying.
But it's obsolete, and its successor, PowerPro, is somewhat OTT for
this simple requirement IMO. So the registry approach is what came to
mind.
I'm disappointed to learn that the data is not in the registry
somewhere. Given that the most recently used
files/programs/services/etc seem to be documented there in abundance,
I'd have thought something as important as the currently active
programs/folders would also be there. ;-(
