Hello,

My Win2k Pro. system does not boot anymore and I get a
c000218 error: Registry File Failure, cannot load the
hive ...
According to what I have been reading so far, it seems
that unless I have a backup of the registry, my only
option is to reinstall the OS.
I used the bootable Win2k CD to access the recovery
console to make copies of the files I am missing since my
last data backup (2 days ago). C:\Winnt is the only folder
I am able to access, when I try another one I get
an "access denied" message even though I am logged in as
the Administrator.

Is there a way that I can access the whole volume?

Thank you.

Eric

You can either recover your data from a parallel install or this link may
help. http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/ntfsdos.shtml

Thank you for your quick reply. I just downloaded the
utility and I will be trying it soon.
Is that normal to get an "access denied" message in
recovery mode for folders other that WINNT?

Thank you again.

Eric.

Unless ahead of time you set AllowAllPaths to True in Computer
Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security
Options you'll only have access to %systemroot% and or %windir% and subdir's
