Attempted to install ITunes 7.1.1 into my laptop w/ Win XP SP2.
An Error Msg said unable to edit the Registry
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run".

Went to Regedit and check it out, an error msg popped up and said Error.

Any causes of this and how to fix?

Thx.

Are you logged in as a local administrator account? Is your laptop part
of a domain? (If so it might have software rstriction policies on it
preventing this.)

What are the security permissions on this registry key?

Yes...in fact this is the only account of the laptop.
No. It's not under a domain.

The permission information cannot be shown, which is really strange.
An error msg popped up whenever i try to edit, rename, delete or view it.
And only this registry entry have problem. Others are all under control and
working fine.

Thx aniway.

This may be due to anti-malware software on your computer, e.g., anti-virus or
security software. What do you have installed? Try disabling it temporarily
(while off the network!) and seeing if the registry key is then accessible.

Alternately, it may be due to malware. It would be a good idea to do an
anti-virus scan and a check for rootkits - there's rootkit detection software at
www.sysinternals.com.
