Registry error?

When I try to open or create a web on my "localhost" I get the
following error message:
Server error: Error 5 opening registry key "SOFTWARE\Classes\.4".

I can use FP to open and create webs on my Win2K server or a remote
server fine. This error only happens on the local machine.

I have tried reloading FP extensions; no joy.
Tried un-installing IIS and re-install; no joy.

I can open the existing webs on my local IIS with IE. But I can't open
them with Frontpage.

Any ideas how to fix my registry?

Does the key exist? If so can you navigate to it/view contents? If the key
exist but you cannot view contents then your registry is probably corrupt.
This key isn't created by the operating system. So you may want to ask in a
group specific to the programming you're doing.

Dave Patrick laid this down on his screen :

Nope... I did a search for that and it didn't show up. I even searched
for it on one of my other PCs and couldn't find that ref either.

Then that's probably the reason you get the error.

Dave Patrick used his keyboard to write :

Well.... that doesn't help me find out WHY. I may try a restore but I'm
not sure when this happened. I only use it when one of my clients have
some site problem.

Yes, I know it doesn't directly help except now you know it isn't an
operating system issue. Try asking in one of the groups specific to the
programming you're doing.

A shot in the dark but you could also try creating an empty subkey at that
location.
