Registry Error when user is set up as "user".....

Here at my workplace, we are installing XP Professional
throughout the company. We are attempting to put all of
our end-users set up as "users" under the accounts
section. Unfortunately, we have a few programs which
access the registry upon opening. Since "Users" don't
have registry rights, these programs fail (unless we set
them up as Administrators of their pc, which we are trying
to avoid). How can one get past that? Any ideas? Is
there any way to set up someone as a user, yet still give
them rights to the registry?

Thank you!!

Open regedit, highlight the key in the registry you want
to allow access to, and choose Edit->Permissions - add
permissions for the user or group(s) in question.

Note that depending what you allow access to, a nefarious
user could potentially cause Bad Things (tm) to happen on
the machine, up to and including forcing a trojan to run
when an Administrator did something (ie, the user can
make themselves an Administrator).

If you limit it to very specific keys and know what those
keys do, you should be ok however.

In the first instance, have you tried contacting the companies who made the
problematic software to see if they have an update, patch, new version,
whatever that works a little better with Windows XP. Not quite an instant
fix but maybe a better one in the long run.
