Hi ... I am curious as to how do you clean out the
registry editor when doing a format on the hard drive ...
I mean i hear that if you format your hard drive from the
xp disk that it never cleans everything .. Is this
true ??? If so is there a way to completively remove
everything on the hard drive ??? I have windows xp pro

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

9. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:

Hi ... I don't know what just happen i guess i might of
hit the wrong key there couldn't finish my last post ....
Any ways my question would be is there any way to format
the hard drive back to the way it was when it was new ????

If you follow the instructions I posted above, and delete all the
partitions, it will wipe the drive clean. Then proceed to make
a new partition and then format it NTFS.

everything in the Registry is wipe off ??? If so i am

because i have done that many of times in the past and i
still see stuff right after i format .... In the IE
browser the address area there is website that i have
gone in the past that never seem to get deleted... Why is
that ???

If you are in fact deleting the partitions, it's impossible that there would
be registry entries left. If you are seeing old information on the computer,
then you aren't deleting the old partitions.

First let me say, if you follow Carey Frish[MVP] advice
you will not go wrong, second in step #5 "Clean install"
that is what it means so there is no way you will have
anything left over from previous package! If you did
a "repair install" you will....Good luck.

Hi ... Yes i delete the c drive and format it as well
but i am using NTFS were i do have other drives that i
don't delete , just the c drive were windows is install
