Hi,

Does anyone know of a program that can open .dat or .man files? I need to
change a setting in a mandatory profile that is being applied to 3 PCs. I've
seen programs that can view .dat/.man files and edit .reg files but not what
I want!

If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful.

Cheers

Ben

What OS?

For NTx OSs regedt32.exe can "Load hive/Unload hive".
See the Help and search "loading hives"

Works with valid registry hive files (not in use) stored on disk no
matter the extension used.

Always Unload before exiting.
Have backups
While "loaded" you can also use regedit.exe.

Its Win2000, I'm just looking at regedt32.exe, trouble is, doesn't it load
the hive into your current registry? I don't want to import the settings
from the mandatory profile, into my registry!

No. Well not in the way I think you may mean.
"Load hive" does not "merge" or "import" into the active system or
user registry branches. It loads the binary hive file into the
editor for examination/manipulation. That is, editing.

For a ntuser.dat (ntuser.man) you would in regedt32, from the top
level of USERS (HKU) load it into a key you name (eg "TEMP-MAN")

This is distinctly different than "merge", "import" (regedit), or
"Restore..." (regedt32).
