Norton/Symantec has been painfully bloated for some time, i.e. their AV
alone is about 70Meg without defs in comparison to the free Avast! or AVG
which are about 7 Meg with defs (both of which are respected AV's in the
freebie world). In regard to the Reg cleaning apps, any of them need to be
used caution and judiciously. Just make sure the app has a backup feature
to restore any 'cleaning' if something should go awry. The last free
version of jv16 Power Tools does a great job (still available at many sites,
do a Google search) and Crap Cleaner, also, does a very good job (also a
free app, available at
http://ccleaner.com/downloadbuilds.asp )
CCleaner will also do a super job of cleaning useless files that tend to
clog up a system. If you decide to try it, make sure you go to the "Other
versions" download section (link above) and get the 'slim' version that does
not contain the Yahoo! toolbar. I have been using both for quite a while
with no problems or conflicts.....I have never had to use any of the CC Reg
backups.....both apps are small, well behaved and play well with others.
This is MY experience, YMMV, I know there are others.....
