have noticed this for some time and finally decided to ask about this.
every now and then i have to edit the registry to clear some stuff ou
and have seen several long lists of domain names under th
hkey_current_user and hkey_users: software/microsoft/windows/curren
version/explorer/internet settings/zonemap/domains. 99.9% i have neve
been to and just curious what they are used for, maybe by interne
explorer, and if they are really needed. i would suppose if they ar
in the registry that they are needed, but why. if deleted it woul
help cut out some of the bloat in the registry. never use interne
explorer, anyway. and don't suppose firefox would use them.
anybody have thoughts on this

Why.?? Editing and deleting from the Registry is asking for possible major problems.

You do not need to edit for that key. Leave it be along with the Reg.

Why do you think you "have to edit the registry to clear some stuff
out"? Getting rid of what you call "some of the bloat in the registry"
is entirely unneeded; it does nothing of any value for you other than
saving a tiny amount of disk space.

Are you sure of the key ?
Mine is :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Interne
Settings\ZoneMap\Domains
and the one Default value is empty.

I Googled 'ZoneMap\Domains' and it seems that these entries ar
written by SpyBot:
'ZoneMap\Domains registry keys ?' (http://tinyurl.com/bk39a3)
'question re registy and zonemap - Safer Networking Forums
(http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=2367)

If you haven't used SpyBot maybe some other antivirus/antimalwar
program wrote them.
If you decide to delete them, export that key to a reg file first as
backup.

Thanks, Dave-UK, i do use spybot so that is exactly what i'm seeing.
posted this kind of hastily so didn't think about googleing for this an
the two links were spot on. appreciate your time to do that and th
post!
