I uninstalled the software DVD Power Burner from my machine using the set up
program. It asked me to restart my pc and when doing this it stops at the
STOP screen saying that it shut down due to a recent hardware change. I've
got the options of Safe Mode and Last Known Configuration, when I try any of
these it just restarts and gets to the same STOP screen.

I've looked on a couple of pages and it says that it didn't remove part of
the registry correctly so wont restart.

Can anyone help me on what I can do as I don't want to loose all my data.
I've tried putting in the XP cd but it doesn't even get to the stage of
loading it

your computer may be
set to boot directly from
the harddrive. so you
would have to modify
the boot order and select
the dvd or cd device to
boot first.

you would have to enter
the cmos/bios mother
board settings. check
your computer manual
or go to the website for
your pc for instructions.

however, typically you
can either hold down
the del key or maybe the
f1 key and then press
the power on button to
the computer.

afterwards try booting with your
xp installation cd.

then bypass the installation
and go to the recovery console
instead.

when you get to the
file system prompt
type and enter:

chkdsk

then exit and reboot
without the cd.

this is just a quick thought
that may get you back in at
least into safemode.
