When I am connected to the internet I keep getting pop-ups that claim they
are from Microsoft and that a corruption in my registry has been found and
that my computer may shut down. It then directs me to a commecial site to
download a registry patch that will fix everything. I am sure that it is not
microsoft and that it is probably an ad-ware or spyware. I've installed and
run Ad-ware SE and I also have spybot and spyware blaster running. Just
wondering if anyone has any ideas on fixing this problem or anyother spyware
programs that might hunt it out. Could I possilbe have something in my
registry that keeps these things popping up. Thanks for the help.

Under NO circumstance download the file you're directed to!

Sounds like you need to install a firewall, these messages are from your
Messenger service running but indicate that you are partly at least open
on the web.

No, there's probably nothing wrong with your registry. Those phony
scaremongering popups are all over the place. I've nearly fallen for
some of the better ones once or twice myself.

Your best bet is to ignore them if you can, or perhaps get a
higher-quality ad blocker, since your one doesn't seem to be handling
that one very well.

Hope that helps.
