Registry Colum Order

I am getting the following Warning each time I boot the computer. It
occurs just before the tray is finished loading.

An error occurred when trying to read the column order from the
registry, the column order will revert to default settings.

How do I fix this?

Unknowable without more specifics. Such as the process kicking up
the error... One might try disabling all system tray processes and
then testing each one on a reboot. One might try tracking registry
actions using Sysinternals REGMON with the "Log Boot" option
perhaps.

I suspect a registry key value/data is damaged or perhaps missing,
but one must have more information that narrows this down to a
process or knowable key in the registry to proceed I believe.

Have you tried just changing the "column order" in each and every
process that is in the System Tray and has such options? That
might cause new information to overwrite existing "bad" stored
settings. Try this first.

As always, ensure the system is free of malware.

What is "column order" and how is it represented in a Registry key?

It is to the best of my knowledge. But I will check again with
Ad-Aware.

I think I will Pause the loading of Windows the instant I see the
warning and try to narrow down the tray application that is causing
it.

I did just that and found the offending application. So I left it out
of the startup. Then I ran it manually and it inserted a new startup
which does not cause any problems. So I got rid of the old startup.

IOW, it apparently cured itself.

Mind saying what application it was?

"Column order" would be some program that displays a graphical
interface and has data displayed in columns (like a spreadsheet)
and provides for changing the order of the columns, often via a
Prefences or Options setting or by click-dragging a column header
left or right.
