Hi, this isn't earth-shatteringly important, but it's something that's
always puzzled me & I'd like to fix :-

The chap who built my computer registered it to my first name 'Archibald'
:-) , this is a name I never use. I actually log in under my business name,
'MegaCorp.'

(I'm the only user)

In Documents and Settings, I have folders called Administrator, All Users,
Default User, Guest and damned 'Archibald.'

As far as I can see, to all intents and purposes, 'Archibald' is
'MegaCorp' - is there any way for me to change the unwanted registration
name? Now we're networked even I'm getting confused.

BTW: I'm able to tweak the registry to change the registered owner, but this
doesn't change the title of the 'Archibald' folder in C:\documents and
settings. Or indeed the title of this folder across the network.

Cheers

Hi,

Essentially, no, you can't rename the actual profile folder. Instead, logon
as administrator. Create a new user account using the preferred name, then
copy the old "archibald" profile over it. Then logoff and back on as the new
user. Once you are comfortable everything is correct, you can delete the
"archibald" profile.

The C:\Documents and Settings\Username folders _cannot_ be
renamed, even if the associated user account has been. So, your best
course of action would be to log on using the built-in Administrator
account, create a new user account, with the username desired. You
can then delete the old user account(s).

You can change the name of the user profile, but like you have learned it is
more difficult to change that users folders name. But it is doable.

Create a new Administrator account and log on to that account. You will
first need to take Ownership of the files in C:\Documents and
Settings\<Archibald> and then copy the contents of that profile to the new
profile you created. These 2 articles will guide you.
