hello , I am new to this newsgroup stuff, will try to explain what is
happening to my computer.

I have been scanning photo's of my family over the past 2 years and
putting them on my harddrive. I have also been deleting a lot of them
after putting them on a cd. Now I am finding that all along "my
computer" has been copying or regenerating this files down at the
bottom of the folder as copy 2 , copy 3 etc. I have been trying to
delete but I have up to copy 13 of some pictures. yikes my harddrive
is being eaten up by all these copies!! can some one tell me of a
setting that I have done that is doing this. I sure hope it is a
simple case to do.

thanking you in advance

It is a simple thing - your hand has not been as steady as one would
want. You've been moving the icons of the files very slightly. Try this
instead (and I'm assuming that you have your mouse set to double-click
and not single-click):

1. To select multiple files that are next to each other (contiguous),
left-click on the first one to select it. Then hold down the Shift key
and left-click on the last file in the series. This will select all of
the files inbetween.

2. Now either right-click anywhere on the highlighted files and then
left-click "Delete". Or go to File>Delete.

3. To select files for deletion that aren't contiguous, hold the Ctrl
key as you left-click to select. Then delete the same way as in #2.
