when I go to start>run>regedit I get a message of This
application has failed to start because clb.dll was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem.
I have done that and still have the problem.
The clb.dll file is a standard Windows file (clb= column list box). You can
expand a fresh copy from your Windows CD to the %windir%\System32 folder.

If your Windows was preinstalled and you don't have a CD, look for a folder
named i386 on the hard drive that contains the Windows setup files. If
found, use this folder in place of the Windows CD.
Also, this is kind of an unusual file to have missing or damaged. It may be
a fluke or it may a sign of other mischief. Check the system with an up to
date antivirus program. Also suggest running chkdsk to be sure the file
system is healthy.
MVP Doug Knox has a nice little utility that will create second copies of
msconfig, regedit and task manager. If a virus were to disable your normal
working copies of these programs, you would have alternate copies to fall
