Greetings:
I recently installed RealOne free player, but developed
some problems with XP Home Ed.
I uninstalled the player, but it's still listed in my
registry.
Should I remove the RealOne HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE entries?
I'm a registry novice.
Thanks for your help.

Yes the registry is dangerous, but I have never seen any harm in removing
old entries from an uninstalled application or program. Someone is going to
say i'm wrong, but I manually delete entries after every uninstall I do and
have never had a problem. So my advice is go ahead and get rid of it.

Hi Dave,

While what you describe is relatively safe, the danger lies in removing an
entry that is not in fact associated with the program that was uninstalled.
This happens now and then when removing a program that contains references
to another program (gets sort of confusing). Sometimes, these references can
interfere with the normal operation of other features of Windows (for
instance the context menus).

An easy way to save the part of the registry you are
deleting is to highlight the entry you want to delete.
Next, click File>Export and in the dialog box that opens,
give a file name and path where you want to save the file
and click save. I think it defaults to My Documents. If
you find that the deletion was a mistake, all you have to
do is go to the file (it will have a reg extension) and
right click on it and click on Merge. Presto and it is
back in the registry. HTH, Vik.

Thank you all for your excellent help and direction.
