In attempting to use either command I get the
message "Memory access violation in Kernal32 at
1349:88737977" with regedit and and "Memory access
violation in kernal32 at 3935:19243224. What's wrong and
how may I correct this problem? Thanks.

Try clicking My Computer, There select and right Click your C drive, Choose
Properties,Tools and click on check now, (Make sure you put a ck mark on
Automatically fix file system errors, and on Scan for and attempt recovery
of bad sectors. Then click Start, and it will ask you if you want to check
during the next boot, just click yes, and reboot.
Good Luck,
