I remember references to regcleaners sometime ago and I've gone back over
7000 posts and can't find them.

My MS help files are dead. Sometime ago, I ran a regcleaner, don't remember
the name of it, that really screwed things up. I got out of it with XP's
system restore. I think it set a bit that blocks help files in MS because I
vaguely remember that there was a file listed with the regcleaner download
to fix that if it happened.

I can't find it again. Anyone recall where it was or have other
suggestions?

Easy Cleaner? http://www.toniarts.com/ecleane.htm

I'm curious to know if people have experienced any real problems with
EasyClean since I just started using it yesterday (2 Beta 2 ) and
hadn't heard about it (or paid attention) before. On my Win ME I got a
error message when trying one of the capabilities but otherwise it
seems ok.

The registry clean function seems like a good complement to RegSeeker
which I thought was quite aggressive. But EasyClean found many other
items. They seem to complement each other, one finding items the other
doesn't.

I did have a few minor issues, tho I very much like the new interface.

1.) The options.ini pops up on my desktop (I don't want it to) every
time I open the program. I remember having this problem with 1.7 years
ago but have no memory of how I fixed it.

2.) Any changes I make to options is lost once I get out of EC (like the
folders where undo files are to go). This one is more problematical
than the others.

3.) Every time it's opened the language choice box pops up, even tho
there is only one choice, the default (english).

Other than that it did seem to clean things nicely. (I am on XP).

Try to make a shortcut to the program and set the "Start in" as the
program's folder.
The .ini file should be saved there not on the desktop so the options will
be found next time
you open the program.
This is typical problem when the programmer forget to set the current folder
when the application starts.
I didn't tried but this seems to be the cause.

Thanks! I shall try this now.

Havent had any problems on w98 but im a little cautious as in my opinion
the previous easy clean was way too aggressive ( if i recall the author
of jv16 power tools tested various regcleaners and if memeory serves well
the previous easyclean didnt fare well).Im using the backup function just
in case at the moment.I do miss the find invalid start menu items though
that was in the previous version.

You mean in the 2 beta? It's there.

As for my ini problems making it a shortcut solved everything (instead
of dragging a copy from the folder as I tend to do).

Fixed the language window at splash screen as well.

All of this reminds me of an old favorite of mine, the exact name of which
escapes me but something like "regscrubber" and published by "lexum or
lexun?" anybody remember the name of the file, where it can be retrieved
and general comment on its quality?

RegScrubXP by Lexun Freeware. It's great--one of my must-haves. I'm
getting a 404 on their site but a Google should turn up plenty of other
links.

I did not find regscrub doing a very superficial google. However, I did
find it on my hard disk. If anybody would like it, I will send - it -
download it ...to the group in general or anybody who wants it ASSUMING
somebody gives me step by step, by the hand instructions how to do so. I am
using Outlook and I am more than a little bit of a maladept at this "stuff".

As a follow up on instructions how to download file to group..I have just
begun using Pegasus rather than outlook xp. When I employ the "reply" icon
I get a message that in order to "reply" I must use outlook as default email
client!!!

I am going to Pegasus group to see how I can correct that issue.

You can get RegScrubXP here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Click on the "BTN" link in the lower right hand corner to download, or
http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=2048&file=3&evp=50bd078f62c11086d8d7693510554b73 ,
or

Well shoot!! I spoke too soon. I checked and I HAVE the 4 hkeys that it
said I needed so my problem is deeper. The xp help still isn't there.

I'll try a ms.public.windowsxp forum. Any other leads will be appreciated.

Where is that option in the beta?.I dont seem to see it
me

There is a button for start menu items there amongst the grid of other
choices.
mmm..strange i dont see that option..i have 16 grid box options but none
of them have the start menu option that the previous version had i.e
finding and removing program folders that may be left after registry
cleaning.Thers an add/remove button for the programmes in the add/remove
list and a start up button for registry entries but i still dont see the
start menu option. Are you using easy cleaner 2 beta 2?

More items found is not automatically good IMO. When I used a
regcleaner type program some time ago I lost a number of shell
extensions that were important to me. It took a bit of effort to
restore everything.
