Hi, I want to give the new Vista BETA 2 a try but I want to know somethings
before I do it. First, when I install it from the autoplay after installation
will everything on my computer be erased? If not is there a way to go back
from Vista to the way it was before I installed it. I just dont want to loose
eveything I have on my computer. If someone can help me I would greatly
appreciate it.

Thanks!!

Hi Nicholas,

Simply put, if you are worried about losing data on your computer do not
install Vista beta2. While the upgrade will not wipe data, removing it later
will. These prerelease versions are for those willing to have to wipe their
machines clean in order to remove it. Once installed, there is no way to go
backwards to a previous operating system, only forward to the final release
(and as all the prerelease version product keys are full ultimate, it also
means that to make this final upgrade will mean purchasing the full price,
full version of the most expensive version).

Vista by default does a clean install and stores your old installation of
Windows on x:\windows.old. No, you can't return the the old version, you
have to reinstall. If you choose to upgrade to an appropriate version of
Vista supported by the current version of Windows, your files and settings
will of course be saved.

Before installing, image the drive with an imaging program. I recommend
Acronis True Image. If you only have one partition, you can either image to
an external drive or to a DVD-+R (although that is kind of slow). That way,
if you decide to go back to your previous config or upgrade *from* your
previous config to Vista retail, all you need do is restore the image.

If you want to try Vista Beta 2, you should be aware that you will not get
any technical support from Troy McClure. You should have this in mind
before making any Vista related decisions.

True, but I don't think Beta 2 is representative of the final product. It is
beta after all, and over half a year pre-release and obsolete.

I'm assuming he meant RC2. Did B2 expire?

Beta 2 is build 5384 that was the first release for CPP. All betas and RC's
will expire in about six months.
