I found this question interesting because I didn't know the answer.
So I searched for the answer. And I am going to share with you
how to do this because it is very valuable.
www.google.com is a search engine. You can choose web or
groups to begin your search. The web will search your keywords
out on the internet and is what I used to go to Microsoft and find:

SH: So LCS 2003 is a server software that has a trial download that you
"could" download and install on your home computer to play with. Back to
Google:
At the google opening webpage you can choose groups. This category contains
nearly all the Usenet groups and they are archived for searching purposes
for years back. So you do a search for microsoft.public.msn.messenger or a
different search, microsoft.public.windowsxp.messenger and it will bring
back a list of responses generated currently and years back. There is an
option checkbox to search again just within your selected newsgroup of
interest. Then the keywords will be found just in that newsgroup, not where
ever they have been mentioned in other contexts.
This works for all different kinds of questions outside of messenger as
well. For instance you could find out immediately where to change your
default email client inside of Internet Explorer... quickly rather than
waiting for a response to a post you have made to a newsgroup, which might
take a day (or more).
Mr. Kay has stated that Windows Messenger (WM) provides some of the
functionality found in MSN Messenger 6.2 so there isn't any point in
removing it as far as I can see. Besides MSN 6.2 offers greater startup
choices. Automatically starting when Windows starts up or not. Automatically
signing in, or not. Automatically opening in a minimized window or open
window. MSN 6.2 can be opened manually and signed in automatically or not,
minimized or not; various combinations of these options also work. The
add-in deal for Hotmail has been moved from WM (I've read) to MSN 6.2 with
the advent of SP2 for Win XP
So I see WM as more enterprise, 32 connections for video-conferencing, as
opposed to 20 connections I think for MSN 6.2 Messenger. Mr. Kay has
provided instructions to disable WM at startup rather than remove it which
would cripple some of MSN 6.2 functionality. There is a relay server for
webcam, somewhere in Microsoft internet space, if UPnP doesn't work. But
audio requires a direct connection which tunnels from one user's IP address
to another user's IP address without a server specific to this task. You and
the other communicating partner will still need ISPs of course which use
servers, but not related to the LCS 2003.
One reason I answered this was to see if I understood this correctly as I
surmise Jonathon Kay may critique my message. The purpose of MSN 6.2 differs
and I quote from
