Hi,

I am facing problem between windows file timestamp and Microsoft office
2003 version control timestamp I am describing the problem which I am facing
below.

I have one file which I have saved on my hard drive for the last 1 year or
so but the dates which I found in the properties of that file is different
from general TAB to summery TAB.

The file which I am concerned about is made in MS-Office power Point. In
General TAB I found the following dates

Created Date Wednesday, January 12, 2005, 11:34:40 PM
Modified Date Sunday, January 23, 2005, 10:37:20 PM
Accessed Today, August 15, 2006

And in the properties of that file Summery TAB I found the following

Date Created 1/14/2005 4:42 PM
Date Last Saved 6/13/2006 1:18 PM
Edit Time 1/2/1601 5:02 PM

The thing which is for which I am curious about is that how can it be
possible that Last Saved time from summary TAB can be different from Modified
time from general TAB and rest all dates.

As you can see can and one thing which I want to add that I am sure that I
or any one else haven’t manipulated with its dates then how come it can
differ from each other…

Please tell me is it a windows bug or it is Ms-Office bug or some sort of
virus which have been activated to my PC files. Please help me and tell me
the actual cause of this problem because timestamp really matters to my part
of JOB..

Waiting for your prompt response.

Thanks

The general tab seems to show the operating system's "view" of the file. For
example, if you send me a file you created on 1 Jan 2006 and I save it to my
local HDD, the General tab will tell me that the creation date is today (as this
particular file WAS created today). The Statistics tab creation date will be 1
Jan 2006, the date the presentation (as opposed to the file containing it) was
created.

I'm not sure about the other items you report, as they don't appear in my copy
of PowerPoint 2003.

On the General tab I have:

Created
Modified
Accessed

On the Summary tab ... no dates

On the Statistics tab:

Created
Modified
Accessed
Printed

Modified and Accessed are the same on the files I've looked at, but bear in mind
that renaming, moving or otherwise "touching" the files via Windows, the
Operating System or any program other than PPT may affect what you see on the
General tab w/o changing the Statistics data.

If you click on advanced TAB then you will see the information which i
telling you.

Thanks

Reminder to self and Aasim: It always helps to give the specific steps you took to
get where you've been. ;-)

I'm reporting on what I see when I view PowerPoint's Document Properties feature.
You're rightclicking the file in Windows Explorer and choosing Properties.

That explains the different tabs we're seeing, and makes some of the other
discrepancies clearer.

Viewing the properties of the file via Win Explorer resets the General/Accessed and
Modified dates. If you look once, then close the dialog and then look again, you'll
see both set to today's date/time.

The information on the Summary tab is set by PowerPoint/Office and shouldn't change
except when you actually open the file in PPT and modify/print/save it.
