My windows won't start so i tried going to recovery
console using boot disks and when the console starts it
says, "Registry has no ActionSet Keys, The Registry may be
damaged." So i tried to repair the registry using
emergency repair disk and the recovery console but still
no luck. Can anyone help me to repair my registry.

If it is needed i do have access to another computer with
Windows 2000.

It says WINNT/SYSTEM32/CONFIG/SYSTEM.ced is missing or
corrupt i have tried the instructions to replace the
system file using the previous system file but it did not
work because there is no previous system file. i have
backup disks containing the files in the config directory
but i don't know how to use them in the recovery console?
-----Original Message-----
Why wont it start? What was the error message?

If the system hive, and assuming you already tried LKG, It may be possible
to rename the system hive found in
%windir%\system32\config\system
to system.old
then rename
%windir%\system32\config\system.alt
to
%windir%\system32\config\system

You can also try using the most recent backup found in
%windir%\repair\regback

If that fails you haven't much choice but to copy/ use the
original-as-installed system hive from
%windir%\repair\system
to
%windir%\system32\config\system
You'll need to reinstall the device drivers for any hardware added since the
original OS install.

To start the Recovery Console, start the computer from the Windows 2000
Setup CD or the Windows 2000 Setup floppy disks. If you do not have Setup
floppy disks and your computer cannot start from the Windows 2000 Setup CD,
use another Windows 2000-based computer to create the Setup floppy disks.
Press ENTER at the "Setup Notification" screen. Press R to repair a Windows
2000 installation, and then press C to use the Recovery Console. The
Recovery Console then prompts you for the administrator password. If you do
not have the correct password, Recovery Console does not allow access to the
computer. If an incorrect password is entered three times, the Recovery
Console quits and restarts the computer. Once the password has been
validated, you have full access to the Recovery Console, but limited access
to the hard disk. You can only access the following folders on your
computer: %systemroot% and %windir%

I tried your solution but it says "specified directory not
found" or "specified file not found" when i try to rename
or copy it. Any other solutions? Can my backup disks help
at all?

(Also after i run the ERD it says the registry could not
be repaired)

i found a way to fix that problem by coping the repair
folder from my other computer to the one that is not
working. But now i have another problem, my computer boots
up all the way but then my computer restarts and it boots
again and again. There is no errors my computer just keeps
booting? what should i do?

Thanks for all your help so far.

Can you post the exact command that netted those results.

Oops. That you should not have done.
working. But now i have another problem, my computer boots

I suggest a "repair install" ("In-Place" Installation).
But see what Dave has to say.

Thanks for all your help so far.
