Hi,

I have windows 2000 Active Directory server in my office. We have some
Hidden shares in the server . Those folders contains data which are saved by
our MIS application in MS word & EXCEL format. What i want is, i dont want
any users to browse and see the contents of the folder. But their files
should gets saved in the folder through MIS application program. If i hide
the share, they some how find the hidden shared folder. I need to restrict
them to open and see the contents in that share.

Thanks in Advance,

Regards
Venki

I'm not 100% sure how this will work, but if you give the user nothing but
"Write" permission to the directory, they should not be able to browse or
open any files. You'd do this in the NTFS permissions (Security tab), not
on the Sharing tab. For share permissions, they'll need "Change."

Make sure you test it before you rely on it to work as you wish. Also, in
this configuration, if Word or Excel temporary files are created in the
directory where the user only has "write" permissions, they will not be
deleted. Users need a fairly high permission level for the system to be
able to delete their temp files - probably Modify.
