I have been told that the only way to solve a problem with some movie editing software I purchased is to reformat the hard drive and start over. Unfortunately, I have an IBM NetVista that came with Windows XP already installed on it and no CD for it. So, when I reformat the hard drive, I will lose my OS and I have no way to recover it. Can anyone supply instructions for backup/restore of my OS? The Microsoft Web site has instructions for recovery, but it assumes that you did not reformat your hard drive.

contact IBM for a recovery CD

Check your documentation because most new computers have a recovery
partition, and you would be able to use that to reinstall Windows.
